AD-DICTED!
StarMag, May 21, 2006

I AM one of those people who are always checking out the ads – for new phones, new notebooks, new cars – because I want to know what’s new and what the latest trends are. Knowing the latest products also helps in my social life because my friends and I often discuss the latest phones and cars. – Mohd Ainuddin Azham, 28, IT executive

To me, advertisements stand out from the ocean of information. They keep me updated on the latest developments and trends in all areas of life. I find print ads the most useful and I can take them along as reference if I should decide to seek out the product or service advertised. I also learn quite a bit from “advertorials” and at times I cut them out as reference material. – Tan Chor Boon, 45+, consultant

Print ads can be very relaxing, light reading. As I am very active and always on the move, ads in other media would not get as much of my attention as print ads would because when I read print ads, I slow down and pay attention to details. – Marie Cho, 30s, corporate secretary

I got to know about the MPH Book Sale from the print ads in the paper. The ads were also informative and helpful because not only did I learn about the sale, but they also provided a map so I could find the place. – Nur Anastasia Imran, 29, programmer

Car advertisements are very helpful to me. I also find the ads on supermarket specials a boon because they help me select which shopping centre to visit based on my shopping needs. – Bor Yit Ling, 40, financial planner

I am interested in good travel packages and have planned quite a few holidays with the help of the adverts. Ads on discount sales on branded goods have also influenced me to travel long distances just to go and check out the stuff. – Sujatha Nanoo, 42, home maker

After my car was stolen, I had to get a replacement quickly as my job required me to travel a lot. The best way to do it was to look through the classified ads for second-hand cars in the newspaper. – David Reyes, 39, international trader
